Ball Python Breeders

There’s a lot to keep in mind when trying to be a ball python breeders. There are several factors to keep in mind. Temperature, Feeding, Copulation, and Follicles. So let’s talk about these so you can understand a little bit about what goes into breeding these awesome animals!

Temperature

When your breeding ball pythons there’s a lot of different opinions on what temperature is recommended. During the breeding season, you should keep your daytime highs at around 83 degrees, then drop your night time to 76 degrees. The reason for this is to promote follicle growth in the females while getting the males enticed to breed those females.

Feeding

When getting the females ready to breed they should definitely be eating well. The female that’s eating aggressively has a better chance of breeding than one that has not been eating very well. Feed the snake what it likes to eat. If it only eats life than feed it lives, but if possible go the humane route and feed it frozen.

Copulation

Copulation is nothing more than intercourse for the snakes. It’s their method of reproduction. To get them to copulate you just get a male that’s around 500 grams and a female that’s ready to breed that’s around 1500 grams and leave them overnight. If overnight they’re not hooked up then you normally switch males. Copulation can last from just a few hours to 3 days, so be sure to leave them alone until they’re unhooked.

Follicles

When breeding you want to make sure that you’re breeding at the right time. You should normally start breeding when the follicles are around 10-12 mm and then again when it’s double that, and then again at 30 and again at 40. This will help give you the best chance of ovulation.
